This is a brass representation of the Beggars God or Chi Kung shown barefoot, wearing patched and tattered robes, carrying a bottle of wine and a fan with which he can perform magical feats. He is depicted resting on a giant wulou, a symbol of health and longevity. "Chi Kung" is an extremely popular Buddhist deity worshipped all over China. He speaks out on behalf of the weak and was much loved by the common people.
